Foreign Local

Can they smell the doner on my breath,

while I try to repeat the Igbo words I hear?

can they see the tremor of my hands, or red tint on my cheeks,

while I explain the native name attached to a pale face?

I am a Tale of Two Cities,

yet I barely exist in either one.

The inevitable

Death, of the mind, one’s weakness for crime is at fault.

Loss, of purpose, for one’s spirit will be caged.

Sighs lost to the valleys, and moans carried by the wind, for exasperation is ultimate.

Happiness, to the victims, and their next of kin, for their spirits and souls are lifted in joy as the delinquent at heart face the music.

War tales ♥

Forgetting the weakness of thy body, believing the weakness of thy mind hath departed,

Relishing in the prospects of victory.

Accepting thy defeat, as the saber hits thy heart,

Igniting the fire of regret, deep in thy soul,

Losing, to the “lord of the fowl and brute.”*

Unpredictable – TDP

Did he guess,

from the look on my face,

that I was cajoled by his looks?

For he licked his lips and gave me a smile,

and thought that I found him worthwhile.

Did he guess,

from the look on my face,

that I was attracted to him as he was to me?

For he walked a bit closer, and pecked my cheek,

lest I say, he gave me a wink, certainly not one of the meek.

The look on his face,

as I heeded to my inner thoughts,

and moved closer to examine myself in the reflecting glass,

was one I could never forget.

As dubious as I am, and as Unpredictable  my behavior is,

I was sure he had noticed that I was merely looking beyond him, at myself.
