save me

my caramel skin scorched

by the heat emanating from their gaze,

my hair, flowing like the leaves of birches

in the wind of their sighs

“I’m sorry” I whisper,

to unknown faces clouding my judgment,

to the scorching gaze of my audience,

to the sighing bodies before me.

“save me” I say,

as I look up to the sky,

“your children have failed you”
